Between 2015-2018 the Australian Government developed an Integrated Plan for Carer Support Services to streamline access to, and provision of, services and supports.
This service integrates all Commonwealth-funded carer support services and is accessible from one central phone number and website.
The new arrangement began in April 2020 and provides carers with a single point of entry to local regional services. Known as The Carer Gateway carers contact the portal by phone or via the website.
The website www.carergateway.gov.au provides a range of carer-focused information from carer entitlements and respite services, to peer support and self-guided coaching.
By phoning the Carer Gateway on 1800 422 737 carers can speak with trained staff to find locally based supports and services that will meet their particular needs.
Carer Gateway services are provided by several health and social support providers in Victoria. Together, they offer free support to all carers across the state.
Carers can access the Carer Gateway by visiting carergateway.gov.au or phoning 1800 422 737 Monday to Friday 8am–6pm.
The Carer Gateway helps carers access practical information and advice and connect with services in their local area.
